Start Lists for Long Are Already Out - How Did We Do It?
07 Aug 2024 - Matti Tahvonen
Update, there was one addition to rule 12.22, that was not properly taken into account (and which we didn’t spot with our testing data from previous years). Classes M80A, H80B, M55A, M55B, M85A, M85B has small changes (updated Wed 7th August 22:40). Thanks for Guntars Mankus for spotting the (now fixed) bug!
As experienced WMOC participants know, the rules regarding long final start lists are quite comprehensive, and some questions easily arise. Previously, we also had to wait quite a long time for the start lists to be ready due to manual processing.
After the results were declared final, we uploaded the IOF XML files to the system. As with all new software systems, we encountered a few hiccups (the result software had changed a bit since our tests), but after minor fixes, it only took us a short moment to generate start lists for manual checks. Due to course setting requirements, we had to adjust the start of one class, but the second run was ready in just one minute.
Our software’s output provides some helpful metadata to explain why certain people start at certain times. If you are interested in why you were in a class you didn’t expect, check out the separate spreadsheet that contains the start lists with this metadata.
If you are into software development, you can even inspect the logic from the source code or re-run the app yourself!
